You’re in the right place!

At The Unspoken Communication Project, inclusion starts in the classroom for today and for the future.

Our Auslan for Schools program equips students and educators with the tools to communicate with Deaf, hard of hearing, and nonverbal individuals while building empathy, awareness, and confidence in everyday interactions. Whether you're starting from scratch or adding to existing skills, we offer flexible, engaging, and practical solutions tailored to your school's needs.

Interactive Student Learning Sessions

Weekly or Monthly
Auslan Classes

Our Auslan classes for students are designed to be engaging, educational, and inclusive. We offer interactive lessons that cater to all year levels and learning styles.

Each session is delivered with a hands-on approach and includes:

  • Everyday conversational signs to support real-life interactions

  • Fingerspelling of the alphabet to develop spelling and recognition skills

  • Visual games and activities to reinforce learning in a fun and meaningful way

  • Cultural insights into the Deaf community to foster understanding and inclusion

  • Opportunities for students to practice with each other and build confidence

All lessons are designed to encourage participation, curiosity, and connection — helping students develop a stronger sense of empathy, communication awareness, and appreciation for language diversity.

Lessons are dynamic, hands-on, and adapted to meet your school's curriculum, classroom themes, or learning goals.

Each class is led by a Deaf educator who brings lived experience and authentic insight to the classroom.

Bonus: You’ll also receive a short progress report outlining what was covered, how the students engaged, and suggestions for follow-up learning. This will be sent to the teacher via email to help keep track of student engagement and language development, and for the reporting writing if required.

Let us help you bring Auslan into your classroom not only as a subject but also as a skill for life.

Auslan Training for Teachers

Build Confidence.
Create Inclusion.
Lead by Example.

Our Auslan training for teachers is designed to equip educators with the confidence and skills to integrate Australian Sign Language (Auslan) into their everyday teaching practice. Whether you're new to Auslan or looking to enhance your existing skills, this training will empower you to create a more inclusive, communication-aware classroom.

Each training session is delivered by a Deaf educator with lived experience, providing authentic insight into the Deaf community and real-world communication strategies.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Foundational Auslan skills including everyday signs, fingerspelling, and classroom-relevant vocabulary

  • Practical ways to embed Auslan into daily routines, transitions, and lessons across subjects

  • Understanding Deaf culture and communication needs to support Deaf or hard of hearing students

  • Creating a welcoming classroom environment that values language diversity and nonverbal communication

Included in Every Session:

  • A custom teacher resource pack with sign visuals, learning prompts, and practical tools

  • Guidance on how to continue your learning journey and build Auslan into your long-term teaching practice

  • Optional follow-up support or Q&A sessions to answer specific questions or assist with classroom planning

This training is ideal for:

  • Early childhood educators

  • Primary and secondary teachers

  • School support staff

  • Inclusion and well-being coordinators

By integrating Auslan into your teaching, you’re modelling inclusion, respect, and accessibility for every student in your care.

Deaf Awareness Talks /
Meet and Greets

Inspire, Educate, and
Build Meaningful Connections

Invite your students to learn directly from lived experience with our Deaf Awareness Talks. It is a powerful way to spark empathy, celebrate diversity, and break down barriers. These sessions go beyond traditional learning, offering a real and personal connection to the Deaf community in a respectful, engaging, and safe environment.

Led by our founder and Deaf educator, each session includes:

A Personal Story

Emma shares her lived experience growing up Deaf, using cochlear implants, and navigating a hearing world. With warmth and honesty, she highlights the challenges and triumphs of communication, and how inclusive environments can change lives.

Interactive Q&A

Students are encouraged to ask questions - no question is too small or silly. This open conversation invites curiosity, busts myths, and gives students the confidence to engage with people who are Deaf or have communication differences.

Meet & Greet

Students get the chance to interact one-on-one, ask follow-up questions, and connect with a real person from the Deaf community. It’s a rare opportunity to normalise disability and see communication through a new lens.

Optional Add-On Activities

End your session with a fun, hands-on activity designed to reinforce learning and foster connection, such as:

  • Charades with a Twist: Use gestures instead of words and let the class guess!

  • Guess the Sign: Act out an animal or emotion and have classmates guess the Auslan sign.

  • Name the Ear Parts: A fun quiz using Emma’s anatomical ear model.

These sessions are tailored to suit any age group, and they can be aligned with your classroom learning themes or inclusion curriculum. They are perfect for:

  • Disability and Inclusion Weeks

  • Auslan or Language Curriculum

  • Personal and Social Development Units

  • Whole-school assemblies or grade-specific sessions

Let your students walk away with more knowledge and understanding.
